BS Mining & Engineering (Pty) Ltd is a company that thrives on solving mining challenges. The company was established to service mines that require specialized operational know-how services, and to mines that are marginal and are high risk or have high risk areas.

Mining in South Africa has reached a point where it should be turning around, with the sterilized resources becoming available. This can and will initiate a surge of opening of new mines, more jobs created and a generally more versatile mining industry.

The availability of the expansive, high grade deposits of the Witwatersrand Basin are a thing of the past. The future gold mines are going to have to be smaller, more efficient and highly innovative to remain in business. The current price of commodities and the Rand/US Dollar further exacerbate the chances of success in this risk-prone environment.

In the Platinum and Chrome division the largest challenge is working efficiently and a drive on cost control. Efficiencies play an integral part of the operation and although mechanization is dominant, old areas need to be accessed and reclamation of old ore and equipment will assist in cutting costs.

BSME, with extensive experience and track record provides the opportunity for current and future mine owners in this country to tackle even smaller, lower grade mines and areas that would otherwise be rendered uneconomical.

• What We Do?

Exploration Drilling

• • A thorough drilling to investigate  the contents of ore deposits and or sites for commercial and potential geological value.
  • Core samples removed assist the mineral resources staff to evaluate the value, geological formation and the environmental impact of the site.

Production Drilling & Blasting

• • • Here we drill holes in different sizes i.e. Diameter, depth depending on the mining method and the mine specification.
    • Holes are drilled with the purpose of placement of explosives for blasting (blast holes)
    • We design the drilling pattern to mine specification in order to produce good quality fragmentation.
    • We drill production holes for both surface and underground mining.

Secondary Drilling & Blasting

• • • • Here we use a system we developed for use in sensitive areas to drill boulders and toes created during production blasting due to burden, stemming etc.
      • We have introduced the use of NON-Detonators explosives with an advantage of:
      1. Minimal fly rocks
      2. Reduced noise level
      3. Minimal evacuation distance
      4. Low fumes
      5. Minimal vibrations and shock waves
