Motema Resources

Established in 2005, Motema Resources is an entrepreneurial player in the mining sector in South Africa. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Motema Group Holdings. The Motema Group of companies are involved in three main sectors of our economy, namely: Natural Resources, Infrastructure, and Agriculture.

Motema Resources invests in key projects in our country of origin South Africa as well as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Our strategic focus is to extract value at critical nodes along a particular commodity's value chain. We operate with a foundation of solid trade relationships within SADC and BRICS. Exploration Motema acquires exploration rights and then develops and optimises value by bringing in third party exploration contractors to build up a business case for a particular mining venture.

Mining We develop partnerships with mining houses to extract minerals or outsource the mining element. Motema Resources' Strategy for the mining sector is to develop mutually beneficial business segments (as detailed below) that are independent of each other. This means that, for example, trading can continue while exploration is being developed; processing and refining can happen while mining is in its infancy.

Processing Our processing operations involve the sourcing of raw materials from different mining sites, designing and/or optimising plant operations to produce mineral concentrates. Our teams of highly skilled professional process engineers and metallurgists employ the latest technologies and best engineering practices and methodologies to deliver quality products for our clients. Our processing division is the largest feeder of products into our Hong Kong based, global trading business.

Trading SADC countries rank amongst the biggest copper producers in the world. Motema builds on SADC and individual country trade agreements to secure the supply of copper concentrate that we sell internationally, particularly within the BRICS countries, with China being our primary market.
