On 20 November, FerroAlloyNet nickel team along with Mitsui & Co., Zhejiang Metals and Materials Company and PT Harapan Anugerah Indah visit IWIP and PT. Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry. This visiting is mainly discussing the nickel ore supply for IWIP, the nickel products production cost and electricity power, the impact of nickel policy as well as the on-going nickel smelting project.
About IWIP
Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) is an integrated industrial area for nickel mining and smelting project. It is also known as "the world's first vertical comprehensive utilization industrial park from laterite nickel ore to nickel intermediate products, to stainless steel and new energy battery materials and other products." Construction of the industrial park began in 2018 and is a joint venture between three Chinese companies. Tsingshan Group holds a 40% stake through its subsidiary Perlus Technology, and Huayou and Zhenshi, both from Zhejiang Province, each hold a 30% stake. Now Indonesia Weda Bay Park has 41 pyrotechnic (RKEF process) nickel production lines and 16 hydrometallurgical nickel smelting production lines with the yield of 50,000 metal tons. And the new projects are still constructed in succession in the industrial park.

PT. Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry(VDNI) is a joint venture established by Jiangsu Delong Nickel Co., Ltd. and China Yizhong Group. It is headquartered in Jakarta, Indonesia, and its production plant is located in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The company's initial investment in the project is US$927 million, which is mainly focused on smelting and producing nickel pig iron. The company is equipped with auxiliary production facilities such as its own terminals and power plants. Approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce, the PT. Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry project has been included in the "Belt and Road" international production capacity cooperation key projects.
